Kosciusko Leadership Academy

If you’re seeking a closer glimpse of the Kosciusko County community, and leadership opportunities, exploring opportunities with Kosciusko Leadership Academy (KLA) is a great place to start. The mission of KLA is to develop informed and innovative leaders who will serve our community by skillfully leading it into the future.

  • Visit kosciuskoleadership.org. Talk with your employer to see if they are willing to sponsor you. If so, apply online asap. The KLA Kickoff for 2023-2024 is August 29.
  • If you’re applying without a corporate sponsor, you may self-pay if selected.
  • Contact KLA’s selection officer Ben Rice if you want to refer a potential candidate.

Q: I’m interested in running for public office. How do I file?

File with the Kosciusko County Clerk’s office (Justice Building, 121 N Lake St, Warsaw, IN).

Q: What’s the age requirement to run for local public office?

You must be 18 years or older.

Q: Where do I have to live to run for local public office?

Within Kosciusko County, and within the eligible district for the role. Example: A Winona Lake Town Council member must live within the Town of Winona Lake.

Q: What’s the age requirement to serve on a board for a nonprofit, community, or service club board?

This requirement varies amongst organizations. We recommend directly contacting your organization of interest.

Q: I’ve never served on a board of directors. What’s required of me?

Q: How much time do I need to volunteer?

Think about the time commitment you’re able to give before choosing a role. This commitment varies amongst organizations and roles within those organizations. Many organizations need volunteers in various capacities – some for one-off events, short-term and long-term roles. Ask questions to your organization of interest to understand expectations and be clear about what you’re able to give.

Q: I have a criminal record. Can I still volunteer?

There are likely some limitations, dependent upon the nature of your criminal record and the organization and role. But there are still many opportunities open to you. Contact your organization of interest directly to learn more about opportunities available to you.
